- She was punished because she HAD BEHAVED badly / HAD HAD a bad mark in an exam / HAD BROKEN something.
- He took the umbrella because it HAD STARTED to rain.
- He moved to London because he HAD HAD A JOB OFFER / HAD LOST his house / his parents HAD MOVED there.
